What was supposed to be a quiet Christmas afternoon in Rockport ended in tragedy, after a shooting at a home on the city’s north side left one person dead and another wounded. Now local detectives and the Texas Rangers are combing through the scene while neighbors wait for answers.
What investigators say
Rockport police were called around 12:45 p.m. to a home in the 700 block of N. Ann Street, where officers found two people with gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to KRIS 6.
Rockport Chief of Police Nathan Anderson later identified the victims as a 65-year-old man and his 50-year-old wife. He said the woman was found deceased inside the home, while the man was rushed to the hospital and listed in stable condition. Anderson said investigators have not yet identified a motive or any witnesses and explained that they "have called in the Texas Rangers because they have extensive resources to support scene processing," as reported by KRIS 6.
How to help the investigation
Police have described the shooting as an isolated incident and said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. Officers are still asking for help from anyone who might know something and have urged people with information to contact the case investigator at [email protected], according to KABB / Fox San Antonio.
The Rockport Police Department’s staff directory lists David Gerloff as the Criminal Investigations Division captain and provides non-emergency contact information for tips, per the Rockport Police Department.
No arrests or charges have been announced, and investigators say the case remains active. The Texas Rangers are assisting with scene processing and forensic work, and officials say they will release more information as it becomes available, according to KRIS 6.
