A twist of fortune came just in time for the holidays for a Cincinnati Powerball player, who won $1 million in the Christmas Eve drawing. The high-stakes Powerball jackpot reached an eye-watering $1.8 billion, with the winning ticket purchased in Arkansas. Yet, not all was lost for other players, as additional tickets hit significant pay dirt, including one sold in Cincinnati.
While the jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Arkansas, securing an unfathomable $1.8 billion for a single player, an Ohio winner also emerged, snagging a $1 million prize before taxes. Purchased at a Kroger on Beechmont Ave, the Ohio ticket matched the five white balls - 4-25-31-52-59 - falling just short of the Powerball number, which would have crowned an additional billionaire. According to WLWT, the lucky individual will pocket $728,750 after the state and federal taxes take their 27.125% share of the winnings.
Powerball's draw this time indeed ran numbers that could have changed lives, and for eight ticket holders, it did. While the ticket that held all of the winning numbers, including the Powerball number of 19, was sold in Arkansas, the Cincinnati Kroger Co. #915 on Beechmont Avenue managed to sell a piece of that good fortune, with their $1 million winning ticket mentioned in Local12's report.
Located next to the Anderson Towne Center, the Kroger store has gained local attention for selling the winning ticket, as reported by Fox19. Their lucky customer joined the ranks of winners from other states, including California, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and two in New York, all of whom also chose correctly five white balls.
