The Clayton Police Department (CPD) has had a busy week, according to their latest incident reports, which covered the period of December 8-14. One of the more notable incidents involved a burglary discovered in a building's shared basement on the 6300 block of S. Rosebury. "She explained she had been in the basement less than an hour before, and nothing had been amiss," reported one resident, as detailed by Clayton Police Department. who later realized a keepsake and various currencies had been taken. Her husband witnessed a suspect leaving the scene but the individual managed to elude capture, according to the City of Clayton.
The CPD also looked into another burglary in the area, finding a baby stroller and children's items discarded in an alley that were linked to a forced entry into a resident's garage. This same individual reported the theft of change and a cellphone mount from her unlocked vehicle. Close by, officers apprehended a man at a local gas station who had multiple active warrants, yet he was not the culprit for the break-ins, and hence, the search for the responsible party continues.
Vehicle incidents were also part of the week's challenges, with CPD responding to an eventful chain-reaction crash on I-170. A sudden swerve to avoid a lane intrusion led to a multi-car pileup, resulting in hospitalization for one driver and several towed vehicles. Another separate incident occurred when a cyclist was hit by a car while crossing at the intersection of Big Bend and Wydown. The driver claimed not to have seen the cyclist in time, thankfully the injuries were non-life-threatening.
A routine traffic stop revealed a driver with a revoked license and possession of what appeared to be methamphetamine, the substance now being tested for confirmation. Another vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run on southbound I-170 and was later found abandoned; the owner is yet to be located. Drink driving made the list too, with an early Saturday morning stop resulting in the arrest of a driver, now awaiting her day in court, as mentioned on the city's website.
The report ended with a case of a stolen vehicle where a DoorDash driver's car was taken as he delivered food at a local hotel. Despite the cold weather prompting him to keep the vehicle running and the heat on, the car was swiped in the brief moments of his absence. Surveillance footage traced the vehicle's last known direction, and CPD is actively conducting an investigation into this incident as well. Clayton Police urges anyone with information pertinent to these or any other ongoing investigations to contact them at (314) 645-3000.
