Amid their tenure at CSU, Gillum carved a niche within the Academic Support Hub, working as a student employee and there crafted a platform for assisting peers, while also honing professional acuity, as they told CSU, This "allowed me not only to have a direct impact on the growth of my fellow students, but to also gain valuable experience in a professional environment and to further establish connections with peer colleagues and CSU faculty." These connections are at the heart of Gillum's journey, with faculty mentors at CSU playing a pivotal role in identifying and achieving educational and professional goals. "Their guidance helped direct my future educational and professional endeavors as they challenged me to grow intellectually and as a person as a whole," Gillum articulated.
