In a recent endeavor to educate community members about child advocacy and support, participants from the Collin County Criminal District Attorney's Office Citizen Prosecutor Academy (CPA) stepped through the doors of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County to understand the fight against child abuse from the frontline. According to a post on their official social media account, the visit illuminated the center's multifaceted approach to providing safety, healing, and justice for its young clientele.
With guide Michelle Lanier leading the way, CPA participants were shown how the center's environment caters to the comfort and security of children starting right from the entry point, particularly those who have had the misfortune of experiencing sexual abuse, they come to this center for a forensic interview, a critical step in the legal process, where the goal is for the child to recount their experience just once, thereby helping to prevent the compounding of their trauma. Additionally, the center stands out for its generous provision of lifetime free therapy to the children it helps, a commitment to continued care that persists beyond the courtroom drama and legal proceedings that generally garner most of the attention.
Next up for the CPA participants was a discussion with Ashleigh Woodall, who heads the Crimes Against Children Division at the attorney's office, and during this session, she shared insights into how her team collaborates with the Advocacy Center to advocate for these young victims, according to the Facebook post. Woodall delved into the processes involved in investigation, all while emphasizing the sensitivity required and the profound motivation that underpins their work: to ensure that no child's voice goes unheard and that every child is believed when they come forward with allegations of abuse.
