Gas prices have shown a rare, unanimous retreat across all 50 states, as pointed out by Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "We haven’t seen the national average fall this low in over four years, and the speed and breadth of the decline is remarkable," De Haan said, as reported by both KOMO News and WTOP. These falling prices at the pumps are partly fueled by lower crude oil costs, increased refinery production and a drop in seasonal demand.
Stations in Oklahoma, Colorado, and Texas have been spotted selling gas for as low as $1.99 per gallon, highlighting the downward trend. GasBuddy emphasizes that this decline is due to a combination of factors, including softening crude oil prices and improvements in refinery output during a time of year when fuel demand typically lessens. De Haan underscores this with projections that the downward momentum may lead to even more wallet-friendly prices, saying, "We could see the national average spend more of the next four weeks below the $3-per-gallon mark than above it, a trend that may continue into the winter before prices begin their typical climb in mid-February."
