Concord's own Mayor Bill Dusch was honored with the Smith Family Lifetime Achievement Award, an accolade that celebrates a person's enduring commitment and significant impact on Cabarrus County as a visitor destination. The award was part of the 2025 Celebrate Cabarrus & Golden Helmet Awards, an event brought forth by the Cabarrus County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), and marks a high note in Dusch's storied career.
Bringing over three decades of community service to the table, Mayor Dusch wasn't just to settle for the status quo. As a public servant, his resumé boasts roles including positions on the City’s Planning & Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and Historic Preservation Commission prior to his mayoral election in 2017. Under his tenure, Concord experienced considerable growth, seeing its population increase by 25% and attracting substantial investments from notable companies such as Hendrick Motorsports, Red Bull, and Eli Lilly, as per the City of Concord announcement.
"Mayor Dusch’s legacy is one of vision, resilience, and deep commitment to Concord," revealed Donna Carpenter, President & CEO of the Cabarrus County Convention & Visitors Bureau. These achievements are underscored by Concord's recognition as a prime location for families, small businesses, and tourists on the lookout for a cost-effective experience, as per the City of Concord website.
Apart from his mayoral duties, Dusch is known for his dedication to local organizations and causes—ranging from Big Brothers Big Sisters to United Way. His personal commitment to physical wellness has aptly earned him the nickname the "Marathon Mayor," having completed 113 marathons across the globe with just two continents left to conquer, an ambition he looks to fulfill post-retirement. According to the City of Concord latest news, Dusch plans to hand over the reins to incoming Mayor Steve Morris after a fulfillment-filled two terms in office.
