A Conroe mother, Christina Michelle Hejl, received a severe 40-year prison sentence for a DWI crash that resulted in the death of two of her children and left another seriously injured. As reported by FOX 26 Houston, Hejl, aged 36, faced charges including two counts of intoxicated manslaughter and was ordered to serve at least half her sentence before parole eligibility surfaces.
On March 23, Hejl was driving her minivan on FM 1331 in Williamson County with five children, as mentioned by Statesman. She went off the road on a curve, and the vehicle rolled over several times. Her blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, and prescription drugs were found in her system. Two boys, ages 8 and 11, died at the scene. The surviving children were injured, with one suffering critical injuries, including a traumatic brain injury and broken ribs, and was airlifted for urgent medical care.
Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick, in a statement obtained by FOX 26 Houston addressed the case, quoting, "This is an unspeakably tragic case that highlights the devastating consequences of driving while intoxicated," and emphasized the harm caused by Hejl's actions. The District Attorney's office affirmed its commitment to continued prosecution against those who drive under impairment and stressed the imperative for road safety, assuring a rigorous stand on similar offenses.
