Chaos erupted on a Northridge street Monday evening when a three-car collision led to critical injuries and required the intervention of Los Angeles Fire Department personnel. According to LAFD alerts, at approximately 7:55 p.m., emergency responders rushed to the scene at 8845 N Balboa Blvd, where they encountered a scenario demanding swift action to extricate two individuals from the wreckage.
The incident, which left one vehicle embedded in the facade of a building and another entangled with a tree, was serious enough to prompt the shut-down of Balboa Blvd between Rayen St and Parthenia St. Of the two critically injured individuals freed from their mangled confines, "four patients are being medically assessed to determine transport to local hospitals," as reported by LAFD spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton in a statement obtained by LAFD's official alert.
The operation to aid these victims involved a range of first responders, including Battalion Chief 15, Emergency Medical Services unit 17, and urban search and rescue unit 88, as detailed in LAFD's dispatch. The coordination and quick response by fire station crews 103, 100, as well as truck companies 87 and 90, was a testament to the city's commitment to public safety and emergency management protocols.
A further report from City News Service highlighted that two of the wrecked vehicles bore the heaviest brunt of the collision, leading to serious injury and the entrapment of passengers. "The trapped victims were freed by firefighters and taken to hospitals and four others were treated at the scene," Middleton said. Details on the condition of the four individuals treated at the site remain limited, but attention has been firmly placed on the safety measures and driving practices within this heavily trafficked area of Northridge.
