According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Smith's criminal history spans more than two decades and includes a 2002 conviction for violating a protective order and multiple sexual-assault convictions in 2003 involving a 13-year-old victim. The DPS listing also reports that Smith was convicted of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2011 and was discharged from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in September 2017. Deadly 2009 Motel Shooting Tied To Earlier Assault Case
Police records and an arrest-warrant affidavit state that Brenda Dominguez was shot twice at the Century Inn motel in the 2100 block of West Northwest Highway on Sept. 10, 2009, and later died at a hospital, according to The Dallas Morning News. Detectives later determined that the complainant in Smith's 2003 sexual-assault case was the same person, a connection prosecutors relied on in the murder case.

Smith was added to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders list after the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office obtained a child-abuse warrant in August 2021 and the Dallas County Sheriff's Office secured a failure-to-register warrant in December 2021, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The DPS bulletin lists aliases including Xavier Smith and Reginald Wright, describes him as about 6 feet tall and 185 pounds, and notes his ties to Dallas, Amarillo and Oklahoma.
Deputies Want Tips, Not Confrontations
Dallas County sheriff's officials say they are actively working to re-arrest Smith but have not received any verified sightings, sheriff's spokesperson Douglas Sisk told The Dallas Morning News. Investigators are asking anyone who recognizes Smith, believes they have seen him or has relevant footage to contact local law enforcement or submit tips to Crime Stoppers rather than trying to intervene themselves.
