Dallas streets are a little safer today following the arrest of a violent gang-affiliated offender, Luis Antonio Flores, with a substantial history of criminal activity. On the early morning of November 12, officers from the Southeast Division Patrol of the Dallas Police Department were called to Hillburn Drive after reports of a shooting, as informed in an announcement made by the  Dallas Police Department. After demanding and failing to obtain property from the victims at gunpoint, Flores assaulted both individuals, subsequently shooting one before leaving the scene.

Investigations by the Gang Unit's FBI Task Force Officer led to the identification of Flores, and his known criminal background, including a previous offense, solidified his association with the gang-related activities, and, ultimately, these efforts resulted in the filing of two Aggravated Robbery warrants and the discovery of an outstanding arrest warrant for Family Violence assault. According to the Dallas Police Department, on November 15, Southeast-CRT officers connected the dots that led to an early morning operation planning Flores' arrest while he casually walked down Norvell Drive with a backpack in hand.

The arrest did not go down without a hitch as Flores, upon noticing the police vehicle, attempted to ditch the backpack and conceal himself behind parked cars; however, his efforts were in vain as officers successfully apprehended him and recovered the handgun and drugs stowed in his backpack. With the suspect in custody, he faces multiple charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Manufacture and Delivery of controlled substances, among others, and was held for questioning at the Gang Unit’s office, Major Andre Taylor said, "The successful apprehension of this impact offender was the result of an expeditious thorough criminal investigation by the Gang Unit and the logistic planning and coordinated efforts of the Southeast Division CRT," as detailed by the Dallas Police Department.

Flores, now a resident of Lew Sterrett Justice Center, is no stranger to the judicial system with a rap sheet including Robbery, Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG 1, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for which he was handed a nine-year sentence in 2016, the aftermath of the arrest has not only removed dangerous weapons and narcotics from the streets but also restored a sense of safety among residents and fortified the community's trust in the dedication and effectiveness of the Dallas Police Department's law enforcement, translating their efforts into a tangible measure of peace for citizens.
