With temperatures dropping to teeth-chattering lows, DeKalb County is stepping up once again to provide its residents with some warmth. Starting at 6:00 a.m. today, the county is opening its doors to several warming centers to combat the freezing temperatures and dangerous wind chills expected through Tuesday, December 16, according to an announcement on the county's official website.
For those seeking sanctuary from the cold, Frontline Response International, St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP), and Exchange Park Intergenerational Center will operate 24 hours starting today. However, those looking to head to the Mason Mill Recreation Center will need to look elsewhere, as this spot will remain closed during this activation. Commuters should note that transportation will operate on a revised early morning schedule for today only.
Frontline Response International, located at 2585 Gresham Rd SE, Atlanta, is the main hub for those in need, opening its doors for 24-hour operations during the Sunday activation. The site not only offers a place to stay warm but also provides hot meals, cots, transportation, and even case management services. Anyone in need can head straight to Frontline HQ from 6:00 a.m. today for assistance, as detailed on the county's news release.
To facilitate the transportation to these warming centers, pickups have been scheduled for early this morning. These times are a shift from the standard evening schedule, aligning with the center's opening times. Pickup locations are dotted across the county, including spots like the Brookhaven MARTA Station, the Decatur Library, and the South DeKalb Mall.
