Former chaplain Arthur Apgar was sentenced to 5 years in state prison after pleading guilty to felony sexual battery on an institutionalized victim. He had assaulted an unconscious hospice patient at an elder care facility in August 2024, according to the Sacramento District Attorney's Office.
The crime was uncovered when the victim’s son installed a camera after his mother had fallen, which captured Apgar sexually assaulting her. This footage became key evidence in the case, leading to his conviction and sentencing, as stated by the Sacramento District Attorney's Office.
Apgar, a chaplain, was sentenced last Thursday after pleading guilty on October 22 to multiple counts of sexual battery. The victim died four days after the crime. During visits meant for prayer and singing, Apgar took advantage of the victim’s incapacitated state, the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office reported.
