The Donna Land Port of Entry will expand after the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the General Services Administration, and the City of Donna signed a Donation Acceptance Agreement to increase the port's capacity and improve security.

'We have reached a significant milestone in this project thanks to years of strategic planning and close collaboration between the City of Donna, GSA, and CBP,’ said Acting Executive Assistant Commissioner Diane J. Sabatino of CBP.  According to CBP newsroom, the upgrade will add northbound and southbound inspection facilities for fully loaded commercial vehicles and use nonintrusive inspection technology, creating a 'port of the future.'

Since approving the project in April 2017, the teams have designed a port to meet current needs and improve processing efficiency. The Donation Acceptance Agreement now allows construction to begin, according to CBP’s newsroom.

As per CBP’s newsroom, GSA Acting Administrator Michael Rigas said the project supports border security and fiscal responsibility. 'GSA is proud to partner with CBP and the City of Donna to advance President Trump’s commitment to border security,' he said. The project will invest over $62 million in improvements to the Donna International Bridge, the largest in Donna's history, according to Mayor David Moreno.

Mayor David Moreno said the project will boost Donna’s growth and strengthen its role in international trade. He added that this project cements Donna’s role as the Heart of the Valley and elevates the region as a hub for international cooperation. The upgrades align with CBP's Resource Optimization Strategy, supporting new or expanded services and infrastructure.

CBP and GSA can accept donations of property, money, or services, enabling collaboration with private and government partners. These partnerships help support large projects like the Donna Land Port of Entry expansion.
