The spirit of the season has swept through Douglas County as official offices are set to close in observance of the upcoming winter holidays, offering employees and the community time to celebrate and reflect; these closures align with traditional governmental observance periods nationwide. The Douglas County offices will shut their doors early, at noon on December 24, and will not reopen until 8 a.m., December 26, following Christmas Day, according to Douglas County.
As families gather to exchange gifts and warmth, the bureaucratic heartbeat of the county will pause, but not all services will be unreachable during this festive interlude; the county’s digital presence provides residents with continuous access to a selection of vital functions. Whether it’s renewing license plates online or accessing other county services, the convenience can’t be understated, especially during a time when the crunch of holiday errands reaches a fever pitch, and the respite of a Christmas morning without a trip to the county office seems like a small, yet significant, gift.
Further, those commuting or requiring transport within the county during this season will see adjustments in the 'Link on Demand' services: commutes will follow the usual schedule from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on December 24, but residents should plan as there will be no service on Christmas Day, Douglas County noted. As the new year approaches, the offices will again close their doors to mark the beginning of 2026 on January 1, and will not resume operations until the following morning at 8 a.m.
