El Paso Public Libraries rolled out a Hope Booth at the downtown Main Library on Saturday, making El Paso the first city in Texas to host the mental-health installation. The retrofitted telephone booth offers a brief guided experience meant to lift spirits and connect visitors with nearby support services. City and library leaders held a morning ribbon-cutting to show off the kiosk, which will be open around the clock to anyone who wants to step inside.
What the Hope Booth Does
The Hope Booth is a reimagined phone kiosk that offers an interactive session of about three minutes that blends guided “hope messages,” simple breathwork, and lightbox therapy, according to Hope Booth. The nonprofit describes the experience as evidence-based, built to provide a quick emotional boost and then point users toward free or low-cost resources close to the booth. Targeted sound and a built-in “Hope Meter” help determine which message each visitor receives.
How El Paso Secured It
El Paso landed the installation after taking part in a national selection push last year and winning a community-voted contest, as reported by KVIA. A ribbon-cutting video on the City of El Paso’s social channels shows representatives from the Hope Booth organization and city officials talking about partnerships and local backing for the project, per Facebook. Organizers credited residents and local nonprofits with helping bring the booth to town.
Where It's Installed And Who It Serves
The booth sits inside the downtown Main Library at 501 N. Oregon and will be available during and after standard library hours, according to the locations page for El Paso Public Libraries. Short, immersive sessions are offered in both English and Spanish and connect visitors to nearby options such as shelters, food banks, and counseling services, as outlined by other library partners in installation rollouts, including Arapahoe Libraries. Library staff have stressed that the kiosk is meant as an easy-access entry point to help, not a stand-in for clinical treatment.
What's Next For The Program
The organization behind the project states that it aims to expand Hope Booth locations into more communities and work with local service providers so that support remains available 24/7, according to Hope Booth. El Paso officials said they plan to track how often the booth is used and how the public responds as they weigh possible future locations around the Borderland.
