A tragic turn of events occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning on Route 27 in Damascus, Montgomery County, when a single-vehicle crash claimed the life of one individual. The accident, which involved a 2013 Honda Civic, occurred near the intersection of Ridge Road and Kings Valley Road, and police and emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after the incident at around 4:05 a.m., as reported by FOX 5 DC.
The victim, an adult male driver of the gray Honda, was found ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue evaluated one patient for traumatic injuries. According to DC News Now, the driver had "struck several objects" before being thrown from the car. As a result of the deadly incident, Route 27 was closed between Kings Valley and Hawkes Road.
An initial investigation suggested that the man's vehicle was heading southbound when it overturned into an embankment. WTOP noted that after losing control, the driver was ejected from the car, and there is evidence indicating that alcohol might have been a contributing factor in this fatal accident. The crash remains under investigation.
