The holiday spirit is shining in Duluth as the city’s Fire Department works to make the season brighter for local children. Continuing a cherished tradition, active and retired Duluth firefighters gathered at a Target store for the department’s 25th annual employee toy drive, raising a record $7,000 in employee donations to purchase toys for kids in need.
Setting a new benchmark for their philanthropic efforts, the funds have enabled the firefighters to bring smiles to many young faces this Christmas. In a statement made by the City of Duluth's official news release, Deputy Chief Rob Morehouse shared the department’s enthusiasm for the record-setting event. "This was a record year for us, with over $7,000 in employee donations, and we’re proud to be able to help support those in need in our community," Morehouse remarked, emphasizing the team's commitment to aiding local families during the festive season.
Following the event at Target, the firefighters didn't waste any time delivering the fruits of their fundraising to the Salvation Army's holiday toy drive. Three vehicles loaded with toys made their way from the store to the hands of the Salvation Army, ensuring that the contributions will get to where they're most needed. "The Duluth Fire Department wishes everyone a wonderful and safe holiday season," as per the City of Duluth.
