The National Weather Service in Knoxville has issued a notice for the potential of hazardous weather conditions for East Tennessee, southwest Virginia, and parts of southwest North Carolina. According to their latest update, strong, gusty winds of up to 55 mph will be possible in the East Tennessee mountains and immediate foothills this afternoon until tonight. Residents and travelers in these areas should be on alert for the effects that could be caused by such gusts, including downed trees and power lines.
Forecast details reveal a 40 percent chance of showers later today, with a shift to a higher likelihood of precipitation in the evening hours. The chance of precipitation jumps to 100% tonight with the expectation of showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 am, turning to a slight chance of rain towards the early morning. The southwestern wind, ranging from 5 to 15 mph, may bring gusts as high as 25 mph. While the rain may provide some relief, the combination of precipitation and wind introduces a significant disruption risk tonight.
Looking forward, tomorrow's weather appears calmer with sunny skies and a high near 45 degrees, accompanied by more manageable wind conditions, according to the NWS forecast. The weekend continues the trend of sunshine and partial clouds with a slight chance of showers on Saturday night and a 20 percent chance of showers lingering into Sunday. The outlook carries through into early next week, with modest chances for showers but no major weather concerns cited by the NWS.
As per the Hazardous Weather Outlook, conditions are expected to improve tomorrow. The National Weather Service notes that a few gusty winds may persist tomorrow morning across higher mountain elevations but are expected to diminish throughout the day. This suggests a temporary relief from the more severe weather experienced today. Spotter activation is not anticipated at this time.
