The City of El Cajon has rolled out an amendment to its 2026-2027 CDBG/HOME Notice of Funding Availability, specifically targeting the development of affordable housing projects. This change, announced on Tuesday, reflects an infusion of funds from the HOME-American Rescue Plan (ARP), designed to aid certain segments of the population that have been notably affected by housing instability.
The added funds totaling $1,860,882 are earmarked to support those who are homeless or are precariously perched on the edge of homelessness, as well as other vulnerable groups. The primary goal is to reduce homelessness and increase housing stability. Entities that are bullish on creating affordable rental housing opportunities should seriously consider this opportunity. It's essential, however, that all projects financed by the HOME-ARP funds conform strictly to the regulations outlined in 24 CFR Part 92, in addition to adhering to the City’s own HOME-ARP Plan.
According to the City of El Cajon's public notice, applications for this revised funding are now open for submission to the Community Development Department – Housing Division, with a deadline of 5:00 PM on Friday, January 9, 2026. This narrowing window provides a limited timeframe for interested agencies to step up their game and submit their proposals.
