Chaos ensued in El Cajon when police officers were assaulted during the apprehension of a domestic violence suspect yesterday. The suspect, known for prior offenses, allegedly escalated a domestic dispute to a potentially deadly confrontation by attempting to stab a woman and threatening her life. El Cajon Police responded to the scene in the 1400 block of East Madison Avenue after receiving the distress call around 6:49 PM, but found the suspect had already fled the scene, according to the El Cajon Police Department.
The incident took a dangerous turn when the suspect, now a fugitive in his own narrative, led police on a pursuit after refusing to stop his vehicle. In a careless act, he even tried ramming a patrol supervisor's car, with the officers inside intervening and blocking his path with their vehicle. This intervention resulted in minor injuries for two officers, who were required to seek treatment at a local hospital, as they strove to ensure that public safety was not compromised. The suspect then led officers back to the original crime scene, where an electronic control device (Taser) effectively subdued him and allowed officers to take him into custody without further incident.
The female victim of the initial domestic violence episode was also in need of medical treatment and was transported accordingly. As for the 38-year-old suspect from El Cajon, after being treated for minor injuries sustained during his arrest, he was booked into the county jail. His charges include attempted murder of a police officer and attempted murder related to the domestic violence incident.
As the investigation continues, the El Cajon Police Department is seeking assistance from the community. They urge anyone with information pertinent to the case to come forward and contact them at 619-579-3311. Alternatively, individuals wishing to provide information anonymously can do so through the San Diego County Crime Stoppers at sdcrimestoppers.org.
