El Paso County authorities apprehended a man on December 26 for alleged drunken driving and evasion after he reportedly weaved through traffic and ignored police commands to pull over. According to the social media post from El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, the incident began around 6:00 p.m. in the Horizon area when a silver Dodge Ram was reported for erratic driving.
The deputies spotted the vehicle shortly afterward, heading westbound on Interstate 10 near mile marker 35. Upon an attempt to initiate a traffic stop, the driver did not comply, leading to a brief pursuit that concluded at the intersection of Gateway West and Lee Trevino. The driver, identified as 64-year-old David Navarro, was taken into custody without further incident. "Choosing to drive while intoxicated is dangerous on its own, but attempting to evade law enforcement while impaired only escalates the risk to innocent drivers and our deputies," stated El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte.
Navarro now faces charges including Driving While Intoxicated (3rd or more), a charge with a set bond of $20,000, and Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, which has a $2,500 bond. He has been booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Ugarte's statement stressed the seriousness with which the department views such offenses, vowing continued action to safeguard roadways for the community.
