A 72-year-old woman was discovered dead in the Bronx near the New York Botanical Garden yesterday morning. Police, responding to a 911 call at around 6:45 a.m., found Lydia Marzan unresponsive on the ground close to Southern Boulevard and East Fordham Road, as reported by Gothamist. Emergency medical services pronounced her dead at the site.
The NYPD has identified the decedent as a local resident from Walton Avenue and East 182nd Street in Fordham Heights, which lies approximately a mile and a half from where she was found. Initial examinations suggested the death did not seem suspicious, however, the cause is still being determined.
Complementary details from a PIX11 report noted that the woman had marks on her head and hands. It remains unclear if the marks were the result of a fall or an assault. Currently, there have been no arrests made, and the investigation continues.
While officials are piecing together the last moments of Marzan's life, the circumstances leading to her death remain murky. Staff members from the New York Botanical Garden could not be reached for immediate comment at the time of the discovery.
