Eric Grant has been sworn in to continue as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California, covering 34 counties from the Oregon border to the edge of Los Angeles County. The oath was administered by Chief U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley, following his interim appointment by Attorney General Pam Bondi on August 11, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
"I have been honored to lead an excellent team of dedicated attorneys and other public servants in our shared mission to enhance public safety and the rule of law in the Eastern District of California," Grant said. "We have accomplished a great deal over the last several months, and our work continues. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues and with federal, state, local, and tribal partners to accomplish that mission," as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Mr. Grant, raised in Modesto and based in Sacramento County, has worked in both public service and private practice, including presenting cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and the California Supreme Court. He earned degrees in economics and law from the University of California, Berkeley, and previously clerked for Chief Justice Warren E. Burger, Associate Justice Clarence Thomas, and Judge Edith H. Jones of the Fifth Circuit. At the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California, with offices in Sacramento, Fresno, and Bakersfield, he handles federal criminal cases and civil litigation.
