A Sunday family get-together in Galt took a jarring turn when a relative pulled out a gun and fired several rounds into the air on the 100 block of Partridge Drive, according to police. No one was reported injured, but officers recovered multiple spent shell casings and opened an active investigation into what happened.
What The Galt Police Posted
In a Facebook post, the Galt Police Department said officers were sent to the 100 block of Partridge Drive at about 3:10 p.m. after a report of an argument and possible shots fired.
According to the Facebook post, a family member at the gathering retrieved a firearm and discharged it several times into the air. As officers arrived, they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle leaving the area that had been at the residence, although the person who pulled the trigger was not inside that car.
Police said there were no known injuries. Detectives collected several spent shell casings and the department's investigations unit is continuing to process the scene.
Evidence And Why It Matters
Those recovered shell casings, along with witness statements, give investigators something to work with as they piece together the shooter's location and the direction of fire. That kind of detail can help rule out a targeted attack and clarify whether anyone was in real danger, aside from the obvious risk of bullets coming back down.
The California Department of Justice's 2024 reports note that roughly 69.9% of homicides with a known weapon involved a firearm, which is one big reason detectives treat any gunfire as a serious public-safety issue, even when no one ends up in the hospital.
Local Context
This is not the only gun incident Galt has grappled with this year. In June, a shooting that left a 19-year-old injured kicked off a wider search by detectives, as reported by Hoodline. That earlier case and Sunday’s non-injury shots underscore the steady stream of gun-related calls that local officers investigate, whether or not there are immediate life-threatening wounds.
The Galt Police Department says it will update its Facebook post as more information comes in. Anyone with information about the Partridge Drive incident is asked to call the investigations tip line at (209) 366-7010. For any emergency, call 911.
