A recent outburst of violence at an illegal car meetup in Queens has resulted in serious charges for a Far Rockaway man. Nineteen-year-old Justin Aguilera is facing charges including gang assault and riot after an incident that left a Malba homeowner and his wife injured. According to the Queens District Attorney's Office, Melinda Katz, the confrontation arose when the homeowner requested that Aguilera and a group of individuals leave the area in front of his property.
The chaos unfolded after midnight on November 23, when a car meetup spiraled into a loud and obstructive exhibition, prompting the homeowner to take action. He was met with threats and physical violence. As he tried to protect his home, he was allegedly attacked and severely beaten by Aguilera and others. The group is accused of having threatened to "put [the homeowner] six feet under" before escalating to physical violence. The man's wife was also assaulted when attempting to intervene. To face the charges, Aguilera was arraigned and is required to return to court on December 10. If convicted of the top charge, he could receive up to a 25-year prison sentence, as per the Queens District Attorney's Office.
The incident has drawn strong reaction from the community and law enforcement. Queens DA Katz condemned the unauthorized takeover of neighborhood streets, stating, "Our streets are shared spaces and they are never racetracks." The Queens District Attorney's Office emphasized the collaborative effort between her office and police forces to respond to and prevent such unlawful and dangerous activities. A large group was reported to have blocked traffic and acted recklessly with their vehicles in a residential area, which ultimately led to the violent confrontation.
The injuries suffered by the homeowner were significant, requiring hospital treatment for multiple fractures and swelling. Assistant District Attorneys Dylan Nesturrick and Hugh McCann are prosecuting the case, as detailed in the official statement released by the Queens District Attorney's Office.
