An early Sunday morning crash in Damascus, Montgomery County, claimed the life of an unidentified male driver. According to FOX 5 DC, the single-vehicle collision occurred around 4 a.m. on Ridge Road near Kings Valley Road, resulting in a large fire and rescue response and a roadway shutdown.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue teams swiftly responded to the 24100 block of Ridge Road after the accident, finding a gray 2013 Honda Civic coupe that had overturned into an embankment. With the driver the only victim, police stated the Honda was traveling south before the driver lost control, as FOX 5 DC reported. Evidence at the scene suggested alcohol could have played a part in the tragedy.
Route 27 was closed between Kings Valley Road and Hawkes Road for several hours to facilitate the collision investigation, causing detours for the morning traffic. Drivers were advised to find alternate routes around the crash site. DC News Now reported that detectives have not yet named the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
The initial investigation determined that the vehicle, heading in a southern direction when the driver "struck several objects," was subsequently ejected from the car and found lying in the road, as DC News Now described. The man received traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities upon their arrival.
The Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal incident. While the involvement of alcohol is suspected, details remain limited as the investigation proceeds, as noted by WTOP.
