A fatal crash occurred in South Sacramento on Sunday afternoon when a vehicle ran a red light, causing a multi-car accident that killed one person and injured two others. The California Highway Patrol reported the incident happened around 4 p.m. near Mack Road and Elsie Avenue, according to KCRA.

An SUV speeding eastbound on Mack Road ran a red light and collided with a vehicle turning right onto Elsie Avenue from Stockton Boulevard. The SUV overturned and struck a pedestrian on a center island, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.

After striking the pedestrian, the SUV sideswiped five vehicles before landing on its roof. The driver sustained minor to moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital, according to FOX40.

Authorities are still investigating whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. One person was ejected from the overturned SUV and may have been struck by another vehicle, resulting in a fatality. Another individual sustained minor injuries and received medical attention.
