
Early this morning, the tranquility of Baltimore’s nightlife was disrupted by the sound of gunfire, as one man lost his life and another was injured near the Horseshoe Casino. According to CBS News Baltimore, the battle between life and death ended unfavorably for the 26-year-old man, who was pronounced dead after initially arriving at a hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds.
Responding officers, following a ShotSpotter alert, were dispatched to a Royal Farms gas station on the 1500 block of Russell Street around 1:30 a.m, discovering the victim who was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries meanwhile a 22-year-old man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds also sought medical care, he is reported to be in stable condition as the investigation unfolds, the police are urging anyone possessing information about the incident to contact them at 410-396-2100.
On the opposite side of the casino complex, evidence of the overnight violence was apparent, where forensic investigators cataloged the scene, placing more than 50 evidence markers by cartridge casings and other debris, as reported by FOX Baltimore. The name of the deceased 26-year-old, is being withheld until his family can be duly notified.
Despite this tragic event, statistics from WJZ's Gun Violence Tracker indicate a 26% decrease in gun violence from 2022 to 2024, with Baltimore Police Department data reflecting a concurrent downturn in homicides and non-fatal shootings, recording 126 homicides so far this year compared to 183 during the same period last year, and 298 non-fatal shootings, which marks a 24% decline from the previous year’s 394.
