
Early Sunday morning in Sparks, a tragic and fatal incident unfolded on Interstate 80. At approximately 4:46 a.m., a car, driving the wrong direction, collided head-on with a semi-truck on westbound I-80 near Pyramid Way. The Nevada State Police reported that the driver of the wrong-way vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The semi-truck driver, having sustained minor injuries in the crash before dawn, was transported to a local hospital, as per the details provided by the Nevada Highway Patrol in a statement obtained by News 4. Consequently, westbound I-80 at Pyramid Highway was closed, with traffic being rerouted off Pyramid Way to circumvent the area of the collision.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident that led to the devastation this morning. While the identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin, the impact of the event has cascaded, disrupting the flow of early morning traffic, which could ripple through the rest of the day.
The closure of a key segment of the freeway is expected to last for several hours, with the NV State Police suggesting it may extend between five to seven hours. As drivers were advised to avoid the area, according to News 4, the reopening of I-80 at Pyramid Way is tentatively set for around noon. It remains crucial for motorists to seek alternative routes to avoid being snarled in traffic near the crash site.
