In a sweeping action against gang violence and organized crime, federal agents have arrested 16 individuals allegedly linked to the Puente-13 gang, which is known for its affiliation with the Mexican Mafia, the Los Angeles Times reports. The crackdown, which unfolded in the San Gabriel Valley, saw the seizure of 71 firearms, 10 pounds of methamphetamine, and thousands of fentanyl and carfentanil pills, potent synthetic opioids with a deadly reputation.
The gang, whose operations allegedly include kidnappings, shootings, and illegal drug and firearms sales, is described by authorities as a significant force of criminality, exerting control and sowing violence throughout its territory, according to affidavits cited by the Los Angeles Times. The operation targeting Puente-13 also confiscated body armor, cash, and rifles, among other arrests Victor Sanchez of San Bernardino, Isaiah Castro of Azusa, and Isaac Estrada-Frost of Rosemead, the defendants, linked to various violent crimes, including a December 2022 shooting, a July 2023 kidnapping, and a May 2025 shooting outside a liquor store face potential lifetime sentences if convicted.
Highlighting the ferocity of this network, authorities shared details of one incident where a victim was beaten with a metal pole during a kidnapping orchestrated by the gang, and in another, suspects were charged with the illegal possession of a machine-gun conversion device. These accounts suggest a deep-rooted culture of brutality within gang operations, per KTLA.
Meanwhile, the search continues for three at-large defendants: Larry Castillo, aka “Lil Dee,” Soo Kang, aka “Easy,” and Bryan Gordian-Padilla, aka “Goon,” their absences a stark reminder that while significant strides have been made, the battle against organized criminal enterprises remains an ongoing struggle for law enforcement. Among those detained, Heather Johnson is already serving time in state custody, and the rest are scheduled for initial court appearances to face the charges laid out against them. The authorities are committed to dismantling these networks and alleviating the tide of violence and illegal activities within affected communities.
