Early Wednesday morning, Mariners Harbor, Staten Island was jarred by a 3-alarm fire that injured two, including a firefighter and a homeowner, as flames engulfed a residence and a truck parked alongside it. According to ABC7NY, firefighters faced a truck on fire that was intensifying the house blaze due to leaking fuel and two propane tanks, complicating the FDNY's efforts to extinguish the rapidly spreading flames that had invaded the first floor, basement, and attic of the house.
Fire Department units arrived at Grandview Avenue and Arlington Place roughly four minutes after receiving the call about the fire around 5:30 a.m., finding a truck and a fuel truck directly feeding the fire; the fuel-fed fire ripped through the roof of the house and spread to an adjacent home, although this extension was described as "minor." A statement obtained by NBC New York notes that the fire was under control in about 90 minutes, seeing a large emergency response on the scene, but the cause of the fire still remains unclear.
The FDNY's efforts were further troubled by clutter found on the second floor and attic which required removal before firefighting could proceed effectively, as FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Dave Simms told ABC7NY, "There was clutter on the second floor and the attic. That also adds to fighting the fire, where you don't have room to move around. You have to pull everything out first before you actually get access to the fire."
