
This morning, a fire erupted in a recycling load at the San Martin transfer station, prompting a swift response from the Santa Clara County Fire Department. The blaze was reported at around 7:22 AM at the facility located at 14070 Llagas Avenue. Workers at the site took immediate action to separate and douse the burning materials while simultaneously alerting emergency services, as per the Santa Clara County Fire Department.
The situation escalated when the fire spread to an adjacent structure. The department detailed that once Engine 67 from the nearby Vineyard fire station arrived on the scene, they observed the extension of the fire. Deployed to combat the flames were not only Engine 67 but also Engine and Water Tender 68 from Masten, Battalion 68, Water Tender 69 from Treehaven, Engine and Hazmat 72 from Seven Springs, and Engine 58 from Morgan Hill.
In the face of the emergency, a Shelter in Place warning was issued for residents in Zone SCC-159. The fire department's post advised those who could smell smoke to remain indoors with windows and doors tightly closed to avoid inhaling any harmful particulates.
