A two-story apartment building in Granada Hills was the scene of a quickly contained blaze yesterday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). The fire, reported as burning in a first-floor garage with two automobiles, was doused in 15 minutes by responding firefighters, with no injuries to any of the apartment's residents. The incident occurred at 10520 N Balboa Bl, and the flames were contained before they could spread to the living quarters above.
All occupants of the building were safely outside by the time firefighters arrived, and the LAFD was able to declare the fire out without reporting any injuries. Traffic was affected during the firefighting efforts, with northbound lanes of Balboa Blvd temporarily closed to ensure the safety of the fire crews and the public. According to LAFD, the fire was knocked down swiftly thanks to the quick action of the first-arriving companies.
In a statement from the LAFD, the fire's knockdown was pegged at 15 minutes after the first units were on scene. The success of the operation was apparent in the lack of spread to the residential units and the efficient handling of smoke removal from the affected apartment units.
