Early this morning, a multi-vehicle crash forced the closure of a section of Florida’s Turnpike in Orange County. According to FOX 35 Orlando, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near mile marker 257 and involved two tractor-trailers among five vehicles. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that fuel spilled onto the roadway as a result of the crash.
The southbound lanes of Florida's Turnpike were blocked for hours, stretching from Interstate 4 to State Road 528. As crews worked diligently on clean-up, the traffic was diverted, causing significant backups. Thankfully, no life-threatening injuries were reported from the scene, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the latest crash, piecing together the events that led up to the multi-vehicle pileup. According to WFTV, the lanes have since reopened around 6 a.m., much to the relief of early morning commuters.
