Fort Collins residents will soon be able to enjoy a seamless connection on their trail system with the opening of the Siphon Overpass. Scheduled to open on Dec. 5, this new feature is built to span the Union Pacific Railroad, facilitating an important link between the Mail Creek Trail and the Power Trail. According to City of Fort Collins officials, the new overpass ensures a safe passageway for community members walking, biking, and using various mobility devices to traverse between southeast Fort Collins and other areas of the city without interruption.
Previously, trail-goers faced a significant gap in the network that the Siphon Overpass now bridges, literally bringing together previously disconnected parts of Fort Collins' trail system. The project, which includes the new overpass itself, along with the realignment of the Power Trail to meet the new structure and improvements to nearby trail sections, was completed according to schedule. Through collaboration with Union Pacific Railroad, Platte River Power Authority (PRPA), and other local partners, the initiative has met its timely conclusion, weather permitting.
