As the city prepares to ring in the New Year, Fort Worth officials have announced closures and service adjustments for the holiday. In an announcement released by the City of Fort Worth, it’s been made clear that while emergency services will remain available, most City offices, including City Hall, will be shuttered on January 1 in observance of New Year’s Day.
The traditional pause in operations extends to sanitation services, with no collections of garbage, recycling, yard waste, or bulk occurring on Thursday, January 1, if Thursday is your garbage day you'll then get Friday service and those with Friday service can expect their refuse to be collected on Saturday—bulk collections will resume on Friday, according to the city’s schedule. Additionally, residents can leave up to two extra bags of garbage beside the brown cart on their first pickup day following January 1; these extra bags may be grabbed by a separate truck at a different time than the carts, so residents shouldn't worry if there's an initial oversight.
Municipal Court will be closed from December 29 and will not open again until January 3, due to staff training and the holiday, while the Animal Care & Control facilities have different schedules—North Animal Campus and the Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center will be open on New Year’s Eve yet not on New Year’s Day, but operations resume as per usual on January 2. Fort Worth Public Library locations will close their doors on New Year’s Day too.
For those looking to drop the year's end in a more leisurely way, take note that various recreational amenities have adjusted hours; community centers close early on December 31, at 6 p.m., except Haws Athletic Center and Sycamore Community Center which will lock up at noon and Municipal golf courses likewise plan to close early at 3 p.m. on December 31, while the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge keeps its gates open on January 1, for those thirsty for a bit of nature to kick off the year, the Water Utility's emergency line will remain available around the clock at 817-392-4477 for any issues that might bubble up. A lighter schedule will be observed by Trinity Metro as well, shaking up usual commute patterns.
