Those looking to nominate can do so from Nov. 1, 2024, through Nov. 1, 2025, as reported by the City of Fort Worth.
For those interested in submitting a nomination, the contenders must reside in Fort Worth, and their efforts must have tangibly impacted local veterans. Sandwiched between these requirements, nominations opened earlier in November of the previous year, continuing until November next year, allowing a broad timeframe for candidates to be considered. Submissions are exclusively accepted through the online application form, which is scheduled to close promptly at 5 p.m. on Jan. 16, 2026.
To be eligible, an individual must engage in their veteran-supportive activities voluntarily, disconnected from any sort of organizational mandate or professional obligation. This framework ensures that the award truly honors those who contribute due to a personal commitment to the well-being of veterans, rather than in the pursuit of job-related accolades or organizational mandates.
Once the nominations are collected and reviewed, winners of the Distinguished Service to Veterans Award will get to have their moment in the spotlight, announced by March 7 at the Mayor's Neighborhood Awards ceremony. This event champions the spirit of community engagement and acknowledges those who have generously offered their time, energy, and resources to fortify the veteran community of Fort Worth.
