The first phase of the Fort Worth Convention Center expansion wrapped up this week, culminating in an official ribbon-cutting event on Monday. Local officials and stakeholders were present to unveil the newly completed southeast entrance, a feature that highlights the center's growth and commitment to becoming a Texas-sized hub for conventions and economic activity.
At the ceremony, which was conducted at the atrium lobby and retail coffee bar, Beltbuckle Brew, Mayor Mattie Parker emphasized the significance of the expansion. "Fort Worth provides the Texas experience that meeting planners want, and the Phase 1 convention center expansion and modernization exceeds those expectations," she said, according to a report by the City of Fort Worth. The development aims not just to improve but to dramatically increase the city's ability to host national conferences, a move that is expected to boost Fort Worth's tourism and employment sectors.
The convention center stayed open during the two-year construction phase, and with Phase 1 now complete, the $95 million improvement introduces an array of new facilities. This includes an expansive terrace, modern food and beverage amenities, additional loading docks, and better street alignment to pave the way for future expansions like a convention hotel and extra retail spaces. "This is only the first step in a bolder future for Fort Worth as a convention destination," Mike Crum, Public Events Director, told attendees, according to the City of Fort Worth article.
Phase 2, coming in with an estimated cost of $606 million, is set to begin in late 2026. During this phase, the focus will be to continue seamlessly connecting the center to surrounding hotspots like the Texas A&M Fort Worth campus and the Trinity Metro Central Station, all while keeping the facility operational. Enhancements in pedestrian accessibility and integration with the neighborhood underscore a broader strategy to enrich the urban fabric of Fort Worth.
