Royal Blue Grocery opens a new market at 1431 E. Commerce St. on Friday, December 12. Early visitors can get a free cup of drip coffee or hot chocolate while supplies last. The store, open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., offers patio seating and marks Royal Blue’s second San Antonio location.
The East Commerce store will offer coffee, grab-and-go sandwiches, quick groceries, and a curated beer and wine selection, MySA reports. The complimentary drinks are a one-day offer on opening day while supplies last. A sign outside lists store hours and patio seating.
What Royal Blue brings to the Eastside
Royal Blue describes itself as a compact, neighborhood-focused market featuring coffee, house-made sandwiches, and local products. Founded in Austin in 2006, the chain tailors each location to its community and relies on prepared foods and morning coffee to attract regulars.
Local footprint and earlier experiments
Royal Blue first opened in downtown San Antonio in 2019, Express-News reported, then tested other formats, including a Southtown food trailer. Construction at the East Commerce address was noted in filings earlier this year, with SA Current highlighting the trailer experiment and plans for the second storefront.
The East Commerce store is near Dignowity Hill in the Eastside Promise Zone, an area that has seen increased development and investment, MySA reported. A 2022 story quoted a co-owner saying the space could include a made-to-order kitchen and sublease ghost-kitchen space to other vendors.
For nearby residents, the new Royal Blue location offers coffee, groceries, and outdoor seating. The East Commerce opening continues the chain’s neighborhood-focused expansion from Austin to other Texas cities.
