
Futsum Zienasellassie won the men’s division of the 2025 California International Marathon with a time of 2:09:29, improving on his 2022 performance by over a minute. Joseph Whelan and Cristian Allen finished second and third, both setting new American course records, according to ABC10.
Marathon debutante Molly Born won the women's division at the California International Marathon with a course-record time of 2:24:09, while Sara Hall finished second and qualified for her potential sixth Olympic marathon trials. David Elkwith led the non-binary division, Tyler Douglass won the adaptive athlete category, and a total of 107 runners achieved Olympic trial qualifying times.
Zienasellassie, the men's winner, said, "My confidence grew when I got within 10 seconds with 2k to go. I knew I was going to bring it home," and Born reflected on her surprise victory, "I wasn’t expecting all this in my first marathon. I’m glad to have found my event," as reported by KCRA. The race took place in cool, foggy conditions with over a dozen cheer zones and organized road closures to support runners and spectators.
