The Galt Police Department is urging residents to "CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAY SEASON RESPONSIBLY," emphasizing the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. From December 12 through New Year's Day, extra patrols will be on the streets as part of the nationwide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" initiative, as reported by the Galt Police Department.

Authorities are encouraging everyone to plan ahead by designating a sober driver, calling a ride, or using public transit if consuming substances that impair driving. The campaign combines enforcement with public education to help ensure a safe and joyful holiday season for all, as stated by the Galt Police Department.

According to the Galt Police Department on their Facebook page, the department is increasing patrols during the holidays to address impaired driving, which can result from alcohol, prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and cannabis products. They advise, "If you plan to drink or take any medication that carries a driving warning label, arrange for a sober driver." Residents are asked to call 9-1-1 if they see a driver who appears impaired. The program is funded by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
