As the festive season approaches, residents of the City of Garland can expect some changes to the routine services and facility hours in observance of the Christmas and New Year's holidays. According to an announcement on the City of Garland's official website, city offices, utility customer service, tax offices, recreation centers, the Carver Senior Center, and libraries will all take a brief intermission from their usual hustle to celebrate the season.
The aforementioned public spaces will close doors on Thursday, Dec. 25, and Friday, Dec. 26, in celebration of Christmas. They will, however, resume their duties on Saturday, Dec. 27, before taking another break on Thursday, Jan. 1, to ring in the New Year. Regular schedules will reconvene on Friday, Jan. 2, allowing residents to return to their routines.
Those looking to dispose of their holiday waste will also need to plan accordingly. Garland officials have stated that the Recycling Center, Transfer Station, and the landfill will remain closed on the public holidays—Dec. 25, and Jan. 1. Garbage collection routines will adapt, with Thursday services moved to Friday, Dec. 26, and Friday services to Saturday, Dec. 27. This pattern will replicate for the New Year, with collections scheduled for Thursday, moving to Friday, Jan. 2, and those slated for Friday taking place on Saturday, Jan. 3.
Residents can also get rid of their Christmas trees by leaving them, stripped of all ornaments and lights, by the curb on their designated collection day. The city of Garland ensures these trees will be picked up as part of the routine brush and bulky item collection, allowing for a greener post-holiday cleanup.
