An 18-year-old Germantown man is facing charges following a May collision that resulted in the death of an 88-year-old Rockville woman. The Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) has charged Liam Donnelly Coskun in connection with the fatal incident that took Myrtle Gottlieb's life on June 4, after she succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.

On November 21, 2025, Coskun turned himself in to the authorities and was subsequently arrested on an active warrant, as disclosed in a statement from the Montgomery County Police Department. The collision, involving a 2017 Toyota Corolla and a blue 2018 Jeep Compass driven by Coskun, occurred near the intersection of Sam Eig Highway and Fields Road in Gaithersburg. Gottlieb, who was a front-seat passenger in the Toyota, suffered grave injuries when her vehicle, stopped at a red traffic signal, was struck from behind by Coskun's Jeep.

In the wake of the incident, authorities determined through a preliminary investigation that Coskun was intoxicated and speeding at the time of the crash. A subsequent breathalyzer test registered his blood alcohol content at 0.09, above the legal limit for driving. Coskun, who was not harmed in the collision, was arrested at the scene and later charged with negligent manslaughter by a vehicle and negligent homicide by a vehicle while under the influence, according to police reports.

Coskun's lack of a valid driver's license in any state was also confirmed through the investigation. No bail has been granted, and he is currently held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. The consequences of his actions have reverberated through the community and a family who must come to terms with a loss that has been framed by the alleged reckless disregard for the sanctity of life and law.
