Residents of the 9200 block of Alabama Street can breathe a bit easier tonight, thanks to the quick actions of their local fire department and an observant neighbor. Yesterday, the City of Godley's A shift crew, supported by JCESD Engine 83, responded to a house fire that could have gone from contained to catastrophic, were it not for the community's vigilance and the firefighters' prompt response.

The City of Godley Fire Department took to social media to share details of the incident, which occurred around 1:30 pm. Upon arrival, the crew observed light smoke emanating from the front of the house; however, a neighbor's swift intervention had already contained the fire within the front foyer. The fire did manage to extend into the attic space, and fire crews were able to stop the spread of the flames before more damage could take hold.

"Light smoke was observed from the front of the house and prior to our arrival, fire had been contained inside the front foyer, thanks to an attentive neighbor," the social media post from the City of Godley Fire Department stated. The tight-knit neighborhood clearly benefits from residents who look out for one another, turning a potential disaster into a story of community strength and effective emergency services.

While no one was home at the time of the fire, the incident is a reminder of the importance of community awareness and the significant role neighbors can play in emergencies. The fire department’s report did not elaborate on the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage beyond the affected areas.
