In a move that shapes the judicial landscape of Colorado's 6th Judicial District, Governor Polis has announced the appointments of two seasoned legal professionals to county courts within the district. According to the Colorado Governor's Office, Kelly J. Tompkins will be stepping into the role at San Juan County Court, and Douglas J. Reynolds is set to join the bench at La Plata County Court. These strategic placements are expected to fill vacancies and bring a wealth of experience to the judiciary.
Tompkins, whose legal background is firmly rooted in civil matters, has been serving as of Counsel at Ross & Matthews, PC since 2020. Her career trajectory has included various positions, such as Attorney at Parker, LLP, and Associate Attorney at Pezold Barker & Woltz. Tompkins' appointment is immediate, filling the vacancy left by the Honorable Anthony D. Edwards' move to the Archuleta County Court, according to the Colorado Governor's Office.
On the other hand, Reynolds will officially take on his new responsibilities on January 2, 2026. His legal practice centers on civil and real estate matters. Reynolds has been a Partner at The Reynolds Law Group since 2017, with a professional history including time at Bopp Reynolds Law Group and as an Associate Attorney at the Law Offices of Michael E. McLachlan. His appointment comes in the wake of the Honorable R. Reid Stewart's elevation to the 6th Judicial District Court.
