Grand Prairie is set for expansion with the recent announcement of a sizable housing development known as Lakesong, a meticulously planned community promising 5,000 new homes, recreational facilities, and commercial spaces. Engaging the southern reaches of the metroplex, nestled by Joe Pool Lake, Lakesong spreads across some 2,700 acres and positions itself near key highways 287 and 67. As per the City of Grand Prairie's news release, this project kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony back in November 2025.
According to the developers, Huffines Communities, Phase 1 construction has begun with the aim to welcome its first residents between 2026 and 2027. The grand scheme of Lakesong includes around 5,000 single-family homes, 2,000 multifamily units, and 40 acres of commercial space, creating a fabric that ties together function and spacious open landscapes. Sitting minutes from regional hotspots, Lakesong also boasts 780 acres of parks, a 20-mile trail system, and a 100-acre private lake named Padera Lake, which will, along with fishing ponds and swimming pools, solidify the community's emphasis on outdoor leisure.
An interesting addition to Lakesong is Del Webb at Lakesong Village, dedicated to those 55 years and older. Approximately 600 homes with 2–3-bedroom floor plans and a private amenity center are in the pipeline for this active-adult neighborhood, offering seniors easy access to the broader community's amenities. It's part of a larger tapestry, ensuring residents can graft their own intimate communities into the breadth of the landscape.
