A Sunday night shooting in Stockton left one man dead and three others wounded, according to authorities. Deputies with the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office were called just after 7:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire near People’s Market on Country Club Road near Franklin Avenue. The block was quickly roped off with crime scene tape as investigators worked into the night. As of early Monday, no arrests had been reported and the conditions of the surviving victims were still unknown.
What authorities say
According to CBS Sacramento, deputies discovered four victims at the scene: three men and one woman. One victim was pronounced dead there, while the three others either were taken to hospitals or got there on their own.
A worker at the Super Burger Drive-In across the street told the station he saw two groups arguing shortly before shots were fired. Another bystander said the woman who was hit worked at a nearby taco truck.
Stockton's recent violence
The attack adds to a streak of high-profile violence in Stockton, including a late-November mass shooting that left four people dead and more than a dozen injured. In response, state officials in recent weeks have announced increased law-enforcement deployments to Stockton, according to a statement from the governor's office. City leaders have continued urging residents to cooperate with investigators.
Investigation underway
Authorities told reporters that there was no suspect information or possible motive to share and that the scene remained active as detectives collected evidence, per CBS Sacramento. The Sheriff’s Office has asked anyone with video or information about what happened to contact investigators. No additional official updates had been released.
Neighbors and business owners along Country Club Road said the latest gunfire left them shaken and renewed calls for more prevention efforts and patrols in the area. This story will be updated as new information becomes available from authorities.
