Hana World Market, the Asian grocery and food hall mainstay on West Parmer Lane in north Austin, is expected to close before the end of the year, and one of its star food court tenants, Ramen del Barrio, is getting ready to move a few miles south. Market owners say they will run liquidation sales in the weeks leading up to the shutdown and plan to use those proceeds to support staff as operations wind down. Ramen del Barrio is planning its final service at Hana World for Dec. 21 and expects to reopen after a short break in mid-January at a new storefront on Kramer Lane.

Owners Cite Rising Costs And Vandalism

In a social media statement, Hana World's owners cited rising operating costs and a recent act of vandalism as key reasons for the closure. They said an unknown person or persons got onto the roof between Nov. 4 and Nov. 5 and cut refrigeration lines, which left the store unable to display refrigerated products on the sales floor. According to KVUE, that damage sped up the market's liquidation plans. The owners said they intend to keep the store open through Dec. 15 to clear inventory and use proceeds to pay staff.

Food Court Tenants Eye New Addresses

The market formally announced its wind-down in early November and has been holding weekly closing sales with discounts as it prepares to lock the doors, Community Impact reported. Operators such as Cafe du Bliss and Ramen del Barrio are expected to relocate as Hana World sells through stock and wraps up its lease. The closure has left a patchwork of small vendors deciding whether to hunt for new standalone locations or pause operations for a while.

Ramen Del Barrio's Move

Ramen del Barrio has told customers its last day inside Hana World will be Dec. 21 and that it is aiming for a mid-January reopening after a brief break, according to a social media post cited by MySA. Permit filings and local reports indicate the new spot will be at 2007 Kramer Lane, Unit 105, which is roughly 2.5 miles from the Parmer Lane market. The shift comes after months of planning to move beyond a food court setting into a larger, permanent space.

What The New Shop Will Offer

Chef Christopher Krinsky told the Austin American-Statesman that the Kramer Lane restaurant is being designed as an izakaya-ramen hybrid with a full bar featuring Japanese whiskey and Mexican mezcal, allowing for daily lunch and dinner service.

Other Vendors And What To Know

Some of Hana World's other vendors already have a life beyond the market. Mochinut, for example, will continue serving at its location in the Linc near I-35 and U.S. 290 while the Parmer Lane store winds down, as per Community Impact. For shoppers, that means a mix of true last-chance finds in Hana World's aisles and the option to track down favorite vendors at separate addresses once the market closes.

The owners say they are grateful for customers' support during the wind-down and emphasize that proceeds from closing sales will be used to pay staff and settle accounts, KVUE notes. Fans of Ramen del Barrio are encouraged to grab final bowls before Dec. 21 and keep an eye on the restaurant's social channels for the exact reopening date on Kramer Lane.
