Residents of Hanalei needing to dispose of motor oil will have to seek alternatives as the Hanalei Refuse Transfer Station has hit a snag. In a recent announcement, the Solid Waste Division indicated that, due to capacity issues, the local transfer station can't accept motor oil for the time being. It's an inconvenience that throws a wrench in the works for anyone with oil to offload.
For those sitting on a stash of used oil, an end to the impasse is in sight - the service is set to resume on Tuesday, December 9. Until then, the Division's asking residents to either hold onto their oil or make the trek to the Līhu‘e Refuse Transfer Station, which keeps gates wide open from 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
In a time when patience is often in short supply, expressing "Mahalo for your patience" is more than a courtesy—it is essential. For more information, residents can visit www.kauai.gov/transferstations or call the Solid Waste Division at (808) 241-4841.
